Abstract

This study aims to understand the dynamics of self-control among adolescents experiencing social media addiction. The research background highlights the widespread use of social media among teenagers, which affects their ability to regulate behavior. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. The participants were three 18-year-old adolescents living in Gampong Tegu Darussalam, Banda Aceh, who actively used social media for more than five hours a day. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings revealed that adolescents experienced emotional dependence on social media, inconsistent efforts in self-control, and strong environmental influences shaping their digital behavior. Internal factors such as emotions and self-awareness, as well as external factors like peer pressure and family support, affected the stability of self-control. The study concludes that self-control dynamics are fluctuating but can be strengthened through personal awareness and a supportive social environment.
