Sebuah Dilema; Menabung Untuk Hari Tua Tapi Tidak Sampai Tua Atau Muda Foya-Foya Tapi Takut Melarat

This study explores the financial behavior of university students in facing the dilemma between saving for future financial security and enjoying life at a young age. The purpose of this research is to understand how students interpret and balance short-term consumption needs with long-term financial planning. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using semi-structured in-depth interviews and observations of active university students selected through purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis through data reduction, narrative presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students generally understand the importance of saving and financial planning; however, this awareness is not consistently reflected in their actual financial behavior. Social pressure, lifestyle demands, and exposure to social media significantly influence impulsive spending and weaken self-control. Consequently, students often prioritize short-term satisfaction over long-term financial stability. These results indicate that improving financial behavior requires not only financial literacy but also stronger self-discipline and a supportive social environment.
