Pemanfaatan Minyak Jelantah dalam Pembuatan Lilin Aromaterapi sebagai Produk Bernilai Guna dan Ramah Lingkungan

Used cooking oil is a household waste that has the potential to pollute the environment if not properly managed, but it can still be utilized to produce value-added products. This activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the community in Randugede Village, Plaosan District, Magetan Regency, particularly members of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) and Dasawisma groups, in processing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles. The method used was demonstration and hands-on practice, including the processing of used cooking oil, mixing it with stearin, adding essential oil and coloring, and molding the candles, with evaluation conducted through observation, question-and-answer sessions, and documentation. The activity was attended by 36 out of 40 targeted participants, representing 90% of the target. Participants demonstrated enthusiasm and active involvement during the practice and discussion sessions, providing them with direct experience in utilizing used cooking oil waste to produce non-food products. The results showed that utilizing used cooking oil through simple training can produce aromatherapy candles with practical value and potential for further development as an economically valuable product. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step toward promoting more environmentally friendly household waste management while creating opportunities for independent and sustainable product development.

Minyak jelantah merupakan limbah rumah tangga yang berpotensi mencemari lingkungan apabila tidak dikelola dengan tepat, tetapi masih dapat dimanfaatkan menjadi produk bernilai guna. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat Desa Randugede, Kecamatan Plaosan, Kabupaten Magetan, khususnya ibu-ibu PKK dan Dasawisma, dalam mengolah minyak jelantah menjadi lilin aromaterapi. Metode yang digunakan adalah demonstrasi dan praktik langsung yang meliputi pengolahan minyak jelantah, pencampuran dengan stearin, penambahan essential oil dan pewarna, hingga pencetakan lilin, dengan evaluasi melalui observasi, tanya jawab, dan dokumentasi. Kegiatan diikuti oleh 36 dari 40 peserta atau sebesar 90% dari target yang ditetapkan. Peserta menunjukkan antusiasme dan keterlibatan aktif selama praktik serta diskusi, sehingga kegiatan memberikan pengalaman langsung dalam pemanfaatan limbah minyak jelantah menjadi produk nonpangan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan minyak jelantah melalui pelatihan sederhana dapat menghasilkan lilin aromaterapi yang memiliki nilai guna dan berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai produk bernilai ekonomi. Kegiatan ini diharapkan menjadi langkah awal dalam mendorong pengelolaan limbah rumah tangga secara lebih ramah lingkungan serta membuka peluang pengembangan produk secara mandiri dan berkelanjutan.
