Abstract

Kalibenda Urban Village continues to face challenges regarding household waste management. Although waste banks are available, the management of waste collected at the local waste collection point (TPS) has not yet operated optimally. Limited waste processing and incineration facilities have led some residents to resort to open burning, a practice that risks causing air pollution and degrading environmental quality. This situation prompted KPM students to introduce the Eco Rocket Stove program as a more structured and eco-friendly waste management alternative. The program was implemented using a qualitative method based on the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, comprising five stages: To Know, To Understand, To Plan, To Action, and To Reflection. This approach positions the community as an active partner at every stage of the activities. Implementation results indicate an increase in community understanding regarding the use of the Eco Rocket Stove, as well as direct community involvement in its construction and operation. The use of the Eco Rocket Stove also contributes to reducing the volume of waste requiring handling while simultaneously curbing open waste burning practices. The program offers not only a technical solution but also fosters community participation and self-reliance in sustainable waste management.
