Abstract

Child protection and an understanding of gender equality need to be introduced at the elementary school level. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding of child grooming prevention, personal protection, and the importance of gender equality. The activity was conducted on July 31, 2026, at SDN Banarejo, Bonorejo Hamlet, Kulon Progo, involving 58 students from Grades 1 to 6 and 10 members of the KKN team. The activity employed interactive seminars, ice-breaking activities, quizzes, a “Green-Yellow-Red Light” game, and the development of child protection slogans. Observations showed that approximately 40 students followed the presentation attentively, while 20 students actively participated in the quiz session. During the initial sessions of the “Green-Yellow-Red Light” game, 1–7 students made errors; however, their understanding and accuracy in responding improved in subsequent sessions. These findings indicate that interactive educational activities can serve as an appropriate medium for introducing child protection to elementary school students. Nevertheless, because the activity did not employ pre-tests and post-tests, the findings cannot be used to demonstrate a quantitative increase in students’ knowledge
